De goede immigrant

23 visies op Nederland

Migrating from non-western countries comes with baggage: homesickness, trauma, and wanting to really belong to the eternally unattainable. First, second and third generations continue to struggle with the same questions: when can you call yourself Dutch, and is that what you really want? Can you criticise your new homeland? And what is wrong with seeking happiness?

The people who are often debated and talked about are now speaking for themselves – in their own way, in their own style, and in their own language. They show you unfiltered and unsalted what it is like to have to live the reality of ‘the other’ structurally, from generation to generation.

With contributions from artist and anti-racism activist Quinsy Gario, screenwriter Manju Reijmer, media and cultural scientist Nina Köll, writer and makeup artist Clark Accord, human rights case worker Sarah Bekkali, writer and activist Mojdeh Feili, writer and anti-vandalism activist Jeanette Chedda, artist, curator and podcaster Richard Kofi, mother, wife, fighter and survivor Khadija Boujbira, writer and cultural programmer Simone Zeefuik, jurist, activist and politician Olave Nduwanje, spoken word artist and activist Tirsa With, queer activist Dino Suhonic, poet reviewer and researcher Mia You, writer, photographer and historian Hasret Emine, journalist and spoken-word artist Zaïre Krieger, blogger and social cultural entrepreneur Deborah Cameron, historian Karwan Fatah-Black, writer and publisher Yael van der Woude, researcher and curator Rita Ouédraogo, sociologist Zouhair Hammana, cultural historian Nancy Jouwe and councillor Fatima Faïd.

Curated by Dipsaus Podcast, the bi-weekly podcast by and for women of colour and anyone interested in a different sound. Dipsaus was founded by Anousha Nzume, Ebissé Rouw and Marian El Maslouhi. The final editing is in the hands of Sayonara Stutgard.
