A unique collection of texts in which the power of black letters splashes from every page. Two years after the publication of the historical edition Zwart: Afro-European literature from the Low Countries, there is now AfroLit: an anthology of modern literature from the African diaspora. This book is published at a time when art and culture from Africa and the Afro-diaspora are experiencing a worldwide renaissance. AfroLit shows the power, vitality and diversity of black literature in the Netherlands and Belgium.

Curators Dalilla Hermans and Ebissé Rouw bring together voices from the diaspora, full of urgency and possibilities, with recent fiction and non-fiction by fifteen authors. Seven Flemish and eight Dutch, each with their own style and repertoire. Poets, opinion makers and screenwriters got into their pens to share their stories. Fiction, prose and social criticism alternate in this special book.

All writers live and work in Flanders and the Netherlands, but are originally from Africa, North and South America, Europe and the Caribbean. 126 / 5000 Vertaalresultaten Their view on life and their own way of storytelling gives us vibrant, fearless literature that captivates and stimulates.

AfroLit thus makes a wonderful, spirited contribution to the literary canon of Flanders and the Netherlands.
