One 1 Apr 2022 – 8 May 2022

It’s a Celebration! Hama Gallery opened its doors exactly one year ago, on April 1st, 2021. With this exhibition One we celebrate our anniversary and toast to all the artists associated with the gallery.

With this exhibition, we look back at the past year and give a sneak preview of what is to come. An overview of the work of all the artists we represent. We reflect on their strength and versatility.

Nina Hama: “The first weeks after the opening last April was a true dream come true. The first visitors we received, familiar and new faces, the sound of the door opening and people taking the time to visit your gallery, that’s still special to me. And of course, the moment of our first sale, a painting by Hoshyar Rasheed was unbelievably beautiful.”

Hama Gallery is a place where creativity and experiment prevail, where art and people meet without boundaries and where everyone is welcomed. By looking at the current artworld with a critical eye, the gallery strives to continue to present art in an innovative way. Breaking with tradition is central to this. “Where the percentages are off, we hope to be able to make a change there.” says Nina Hama, gallerist. “Hama Gallery arose from a personal frustration, a lack of recognition of oneself. From visitors and artists to peers, anyone who shares that same feeling, Hama Gallery is for you.”

Nina: “We are deliberately located in a location where few people live who look like me. It’s not always easy, but it is essential for change. Literally and figuratively taking the space and giving it to artists who get the platform less. In this way, we also introduce the neighbourhood to artists who are new to them. The meeting between worlds that might never have met otherwise.”

We are looking forward to a new year with a wide range of solo and group exhibitions, Artist in Residence and events across all creative disciplines. In the coming year, we will focus on creating more visibility and broadening our programming. From music to performance art, poetry to cinema nights.

Shoutout to everyone who has supported us over the past year. One love.
